Quintessentially British: By the Seaside
An ironic exploration into the everyday lives of people who live and work in British coastal towns, in contrast to the tourists who go to holiday there.
Featuring imagery of vibrant, quirky and kitsch seaside holidays informing print design. Juxtaposed by the everyday realities of the local fishermen, drawing inspiration from denim work-wear.
Observing the beauty of the natural coastal landscape, in comparison to the man-made attractions, and litter left at the seaside resorts. Inspired by fishing nets and using washed up nets found on Cornish beaches for accessories in my collection.
Celebrating the eccentricities of British culture, best exemplified on the beach, and documented by the photographers Martin Parr and David Hurn.
Collection made from responsible fabrics. One outfit made from sustainable denim (organic cotton, reduced water usage, and no harsh chemicals) sponsored by BluProjects who link luxury brands with sustainable denim mills. All other outfits made from organic cotton denim and organic cotton drill/poplin featuring my own prints.
